Photoshoot: Good and Bad photographs

Good photographs

Good photos 1 & 2

Strengths:

- I used aperture to alter the depth of field in photo 1, making his hands clear and in focus above his blurred face and body. The model's staring straight towards the camera and his body language is powerful.
- The images are of high resolution because of using a good quality camera. This means that in photograph 2, the eye is in high focus and is a main focus point for the audience.
- The models are in the top third of the rule of thirds, meaning that they catch the audiences attention.

Weaknesses:

- The image could have been slightly more in focus in certain the areas it should have been.
- The image could have had more dramatic lighting.
- The images could have had whiter backdrops.

Bad photographs

Photo 3
Photo 2
Photo 1

- Too low down in the rule of thirds: in photograph 1, the model is nearing the lowest third of the rule of thirds, meaning that the audience can not associate with him.
- In all of the images, the lighting is either too bright or too dark, casting his face in either full light or full shadow. To counteract this, I dimmed/brightened the lights and used a reflector.
- The model is hidden by the record, meaning that he is less relatable for the audience.
